Fawkes Diskless Boot

Desktops, workstations or laptops will be able to use ISCSI diskless boot, to natively boot OS from a central storage

Useful for centralizing data into a single server or location.

Hard drives are centralized into a single server to which workstations connect as clients. iSCSI uses the already in place TCP/IP architecture so is a drop in solution as opposed to fiberchannel which requires dedicated hardware. However the stability of the platform will depend on the stability of the entire TCP/IP stack. Does not work with windows currently.

iSCSI allows clients to send Block Data encapsulated into TCP packets to storage devices targets on remote servers. It is a storage area network protocol, allowing organizations to consolidate storage into arrays while providing database and web servers with the illusion of locally attached SCSI disks. It mainly competes with Fiber Channel, but unlike traditional Fiber Channel which usually requires dedicated cabling, iSCSI can be run over long distances using existing network infrastructure, giving iSCSI quite an advantage.
